Mount Meru, standing at 4,566 meters, is the fifth highest mountain in Africa and offers a spectacular trekking experience in the shadow of Kilimanjaro. This 4-day itinerary combines forested slopes, alpine desert zones, and wildlife-rich landscapes in Arusha National Park, culminating in a summit attempt at Socialist Peak.
The trek is designed to allow gradual acclimatization with optional side hikes for those who want to challenge themselves further, while ensuring a safe and rewarding experience. Trekkers will be accompanied by experienced guides, armed rangers, and support staff for a fully guided adventure.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our team and transferred to Tulia Boutique Hotel & Spa in the city of Arusha.
After check-in and some time to relax, your mountain guide will meet you for a detailed pre-trek briefing. During this session, your gear will be carefully reviewed, final preparations will be discussed, and the full itinerary will be explained to ensure you are fully prepared and confident for the adventure ahead.

After breakfast, depart from Arusha and drive to Momella Gate, where park registration and trek formalities are completed inside Arusha National Park.
The trek begins through lush montane forest, accompanied by a park ranger due to the presence of wildlife. Along the trail, you may encounter animals such as giraffes, zebras, waterbuck, and buffalo moving freely across the landscape.
The route follows the scenic Ngarenanyuki River, passing through dense forest and alongside a beautiful waterfall before gradually ascending toward Miriakamba Hut, where you will spend the night surrounded by forest and the sounds of the mountain.

After breakfast at Miriakamba Hut, continue your ascent through the upper forest zone of Mount Meru. The trail becomes steeper as you gradually leave the dense forest behind, with opportunities to observe mountain birds and occasional wildlife along the route.
As you gain elevation, the landscape transitions into the alpine desert zone, offering wider views of the surrounding terrain. You will arrive at Saddle Hut in time for lunch and a period of rest.
In the afternoon, an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 m) can be undertaken. This short climb rewards hikers with excellent panoramic views and helps prepare the body for the upcoming summit attempt.
Return to Saddle Hut for an early dinner and rest before beginning the midnight ascent toward the summit.

Around 12:30 am, you will wake for a light meal before beginning the final summit ascent of Mount Meru. The climb starts in darkness, following a narrow ridge toward the summit with your guide and headlamps lighting the path.
The route passes Rhino Point (3,800 m) and continues to Cobra Point (4,350 m). From here, the trail follows the dramatic crater rim with steep inner cliffs and expansive views as you approach the summit.
You will reach Socialist Peak (4,566 m) at sunrise, where breathtaking views often reveal Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds in the distance. After celebrating, taking photos, and enjoying the incredible scenery, the descent begins.
You will descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest before continuing down through the forest to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park.
At the gate, your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to Arusha or to Kilimanjaro International Airport. All successful climbers receive an official Mount Meru summit certificate, with an additional certificate awarded to those who completed the Little Meru acclimatization hike.
